The carton board mill MEL SA was founded in 1967 in K.Gefyra, Thessaloniki. From 1982 to 1998 it operated under the Business Reconstruction Organization of the Greek State. MEL was bought and privatized in 1998 by Mr. Kyriakos Economou, President & CEO.
MEL is currently the sole Greek producer of carton board from 100% recovered paper with an annual capacity of 80.000 tn. MELs products, used by lithographers and box makers for folding cartons, cover 85% of the domestic market. In 2005 sales increased 4,4% (60% domestic, 40% exports to Italy, Germany, Turkey and the Balkans).
